Multipoint thermometers are assemblies that place multiple RTD and/or thermocouple sensors along a single insertion, generating a detailed temperature profile for critical equipment such as low- to high-pressure reactors and storage tanks. Standardized and engineered configurations are designed to customer specifications, can be supplied with or without thermowells and transmitters, and include structured options such as MultiSens Flex, Linear, Bundle, and Slim, with advanced profiling technologies available (e.g., iTHERM ProfileSens).
A multipoint approach turns temperature from a single value into actionable spatial information. Gradient detection supports mixing validation, reaction monitoring, phase interface awareness, and early identification of abnormal conditions such as channeling, fouling, or hotspot formation. Mechanical design is typically the determining factor: sensor spacing, support structure, vibration behavior, and sealing concept must all align with the vessel duty.
Benefits include tighter control, higher availability, and improved safety margins. Better profiling reduces conservative operating buffers, supports optimization of heat removal or addition, and can shorten troubleshooting time by pointing directly to where thermal anomalies begin rather than inferring them indirectly.

Selection typically starts with the profile objective (number of points, spacing, measurement zones), then addresses mechanical survivability (pressure class, insertion length, support method, thermowell strategy) and signal architecture (multi-channel transmitters, marshaling, and diagnostics).
